"David and Old Ironsides'" was written and performed by Boston Landmarks Orchestra, conducted by Charles Ansbacher. The song tells the story of David Debias, a young African-American boy who joined the crew of USS Constitution at the age of eight. The orchestration and narrative describe his journey as a free black sailor on the decks of the ship, and his subsequent capture as a suspected runaway slave.
This audio cd also includes the piece "John Adams: The Voice Heard 'Round the World." It illuminates the extraordinary life of America's second President through the eyes of his son John Quincy Adams. John Adams played a crucial role in the inception and signing of the Declaration of Independence, and frequently traveled abroad with his son in service of America during the Revolutionary War. They story is based on letters between John and Abigail Adams, and on David McCullough's biography of the title character.
