Weekly December 31, 1881
The original Davidson painting is part of the Museum's collection and depicts an extraordinary chapter in the ship's history.Becalmed, the ship escaped certain capture when members of her crew rowed out in front with kedge anchors, dropped them, and then pulled the ship up to the anchor. The effort was repeated many times over the course of days until a sustained wind allowed her to escape.
