Cobalt Deck Prism (Large)

Deck prisms originally helped light the dark interiors of sailing craft by refracting sun or candlelight. Visitors often notice them set in the stairs leading down into the lower decks of Constitution. Alas, modern lighting has eliminated the need for deck prisms, but the classic design and feel of these six-sided glass objets maritime are still with us as decorative accessories and desk items. This prism comes to us from Mystic Seaport Museum. It measures about 4 1/2 inches high and about 4 inches across at the base.
